The image is marvelous! The guy in it, Luke Sandoe (I suspect it’s been slightly morphed), an up-and-coming British bodybuilder, committed suicide earlier this year. I think it’s more that he’s just trying to get Snake to fall in line. He can tell that Snake is resistant to his control and won’t go along with him easily, but he doesn’t have beef with Snake. What he did to the Sheriff was karmic justice.

I think it’s fair for us to take the Deputy’s own words to heart: “I don’t know my own strength” – as he destroyed the physical door to the back office just by trying to open it.
As he’s just out of the bud, his power (vast as it seems to be) is new to him. It makes sense to me that he overuses it at first until he learns subtlety – the way children learn gross motor skills before they learn fine motor skills. Like using a club when a tack-hammer would do.

There’s something worth exploring here. The Great Ones get fucked by their Guards because the Guards’ ejaculate empowers them (well, one assumes ejaculate mixed with sunshine), but we’ve seen nothing of the Great Ones’ sexuality.
I’d like to get into that more in the future. Right now, I have no real thoughts about it other than to observe we haven’t seen the Great Ones do anything physically for sexual release.

The initial symbiotes exploited the lust of their hosts but the next evolution of the great one symbiote seems to move past this and is more about control and power. We only see the lust at the point where they bond, orgasm and join with the creature in their balls.
Their sexual release only exists in our mind off page. I image a battle for top between Bowden and the Deputy if they ever meet up.

That’s actually a really good point about the Hosts. The regular Hosts are all horndogs because they need to be to repopulate the symbionts; the rampant gay sex is a by-product of that. The Warrior Guards still have some sort of libido (maybe) in order to sex up the Great Ones to charge them. What purpose does the Great One have for sex? He’s not participating in the repopulation efforts, he’s directing it. Could the Great One actually be an asexual muscle god?

Not a matchup scheduled for Book Two – each will face His own headaches at the end of this run – but it certainly feels inevitable, doesn’t it?
We know the Deputy was a big old bottom before his transformation, so there’s no reason to assume he’s anything else now. Even after becoming the Great One, he referred to the Sheriff as his dom.
We don’t know anything about Bowden, other than to assume that as a father and grandfather, he was probably a straight guy – though I don’t think it matters in his current makeup.
I think that the Hosts are driven to plant seed, but the Great Ones think on a different scale, thinking about repopulation in a larger way.
