Collaboration with Gay Harem

They don’t pay for the ad, they pay for actual conversion, i.e. I get a share of the money people spend playing - as long as they use the link from our sites to get to GH.

Sorry I should have said, how much is the shortfall? I didn’t see the voting that signalled end of discussion on the ad-banner idea

What exactly do you mean with “shortfall” in this context?

This wasn’t a poll, by the way. I asked for your opinion and I wanted to get a feeling for how people would react to the idea. And the general reaction was amazingly encouraging.

I understand that there are a lot of people hating this. But again, there are many ways to get rid of the ads, and besides being a slight nuisance, they’re implemented in a way that doesn’t affect anyone in a negative way.

I don’t mind the ads per se, but I do wish they were a little less NSFW. Because I do sometimes check on GSS when I’m at work, and even though I have a private office space, I still get freaked out seeing that pornographic yaoi animation pop up.

The ads are all rather NSFW, I don’t get to choose them. The level of NFSWness varies though.

You as an author won’t get to see any ads for at least two hours once you’ve dismissed them.

Maybe the delayed pop-up doesn’t work in your favor. Would you prefer the ads to pop up right away so you have a chance to dismiss them right away?

Oh, yeah, I was surprised by the NSFW-ness of the ad that popped up when I checked the site on my phone. I have the site set on the “Safe For Work” theme on my phone, so the little pop-up with the two dudes grabbing each other’s cartoon dicks had me scrambling to close the site, whoops. No harm done! It was just a funny surprise.

Do all the ads feature dicks or naked dudes? I guess I can just make a note to avoid checking the site in public, if so. No big deal.

Well, I see it’s an issue, tbh.

Disabling the ads with the “SFW theme” would kinda defeat their purpose.

But I guess there’s just no alternative … :frowning:

"And the general reaction was amazingly encouraging.

I understand that there are a lot of people hating this."

These are two opposite statements, one after the other.

Don’t pretend ads are a good thing for anyone.
Just from your POV alone it’s an uncertain funding model when you asked for more financial stability. It’s a weird response, like you wanted to do ads anyway and needed some justification.

No these are not opposite statements. The reaction in THIS thread was positive, but I still know as a fact that a lot of people are hating ads in general.

Again, you should read more carefully.

Ads are a good thing, as without them, large parts of the free internet just wouldn’t exist. All the ad-blockers just lead to the advertisement becoming more stealthy and devious. Like in form of paid influencers and websites pretending to do honest reviews while being totally paid by the companies they feature.

Do you prefer that?

Nothing is for free. Not even the internet. Everything costs money because there is work and energy involved.

The “SFW Mode” now also hides the ads. But, pssst, don’t tell anyone!

Oh, wow! Thank you Martin!!

With the ads being rolled out on the site, does this page need updated? The text feels a bit old, and specifically mentions no ads on the site.

Good point, thanks for pointing this out, you’re absolutely right! As soon as I get around to it, I’ll fix it
