GaySpiralStories is down for the time being

On this all I can say is that at least in my jurisdiction, NJ, the age of consent is 16. Those under that from 13 up are legally allowed to have sex with those their age around with 4 years of them. This is actual sex.

So I say if you aren’t super sure make no one younger than 16. A number that seems a common legal number.

Honestly i think this whole thing has been blown way out of proportion. It should not have led to Martin feeling like the only solution is to “nope” out of here. Especially when some other sites - like Nifty - have younger categories as well.

Yeah, I’m not sure how nifty has managed for so long having younger categories, and even Adult Youth specifically. Probably helps that they don’t have a comment section tied to individual stories, so if you want the author or site owner(s) to know how you feel, you’d need to make the effort of emailing them, thus potentially revealing yourself.

I’ll be honest that this is a topic for which I’ve struggled with myself. I’m fully against anything affecting real, living children, for obvious reasons, and I would probably put the limit at “manifestos” or plans of action towards real people (if the story is obvious enough), but there is a ton of sexualised fan fiction and such out there concerning underage people/characters.

I do not envy Martin in his position, though I’d be sad to see the site go. I could understand a blanket ban on anything where an age younger than 16-18 is clearly intended (depending on what legal minimum age is decided to abide by), if need be to protect the site, and I second Martin checking what the legal limitations are for his country/the country where the servers are hosted.

Unfortunately, in most places, age of consent has nothing to do with the age you can write someone into pornography. It’s messed up.

I learned long ago that the laws don’t matter as much as their enforcement. There are very ridiculous laws still active, and I’m not even sure all the states have removed their laws against sodomy. In the present case, there are so many worse instances, many of them in video or photo, the international mess it would require to prosecute, etc… makes it a waste of time for any law authority to consider pursuing this. They’d much prefer pursue people who are much more likely to be true pedophiles than people who fantasize about mature imaginary 16 year-olds for a wank. In theory, yes there is a tiny risk, but we’re really small potatoes here. In the sexting cases, it involved real people. In the novel in Canada, it was distributed in Walmarts and such, and even now writers groups are fighting the case. But it is up to any individual to decide or not to stay here now that Martin made clear what his position is. And it is not by trying to mock him, shame him or guilt him (like some anon people are doing even now) that his mind will be changed. Most people here post showing respect about his personal investment in this site (time and money) and showing trust in his judgment, even when they disagree with him. The few that don’t show this trust and respect are irritating enough.

Mafisto has been making many great points, (across both posts) I think, and I get where Robinhood70 is coming from. My question is, Nifty was put up in 1993 and has an adult-youth section displayed directly in the categories. Lots of these involve ages from 10 to whatever year olds and such with older people. Can anybody explain to me why that site, or at least that section, wasn’t even taken down for child porn? It’s 2020 now. Somehow… I’m getting the impression that the law has bigger fish to fry. I cannot be 100% certain, but in reading what people say who are experts at avoiding internet-law problems (real pedos, for example) I remember being informed that browsing and reading stories is usually safe. According to him, even ‘browsing’ to watch cp was more safe. Most people get caught with it downloaded on their computer (and, shockingly enough, a lot of the times are caught more from some outsider, his wife, for instance, turning them in than direct police hunting) It is in the downloading of content where issues usually arise. Again idk, this is what I was told. Anyone feel free to correct me. And I do want that Nifty question answered! Haha This site has like what, 1-3 stories with 16 year olds on it, everyone loses their minds. Nifty, filled to the brim with LITERAL pedo content, and that site is still up and running? For 27 years? For my part, I wasn’t concerned about the 16 year olds lmao. Like I said before, on this site, 16 years old is probably the lowest you’ll see.

BTW I’m not in contact with real pedos lmao. I read this off of reddit AMA’s and such.

I’m for preventing comments from anonymous sources, or maybe hide them until the author approves them. Also, maybe we could see the last two digits of the IP of guest anonymous posters so we can tell who is who.

Comments are there to help the author so they should decide if a comment is useful enough to make it public and official.

Many of our recent troubles have started because of comments that were not useful to the author.

Yeah I’m all for the banning, as i said, of anonymous posting. I think allowing them causes all sorts of problems. Most sotes and forums don’t allow said posting either.

PS. Lets not cause Nifty problems!

PPS. Lets all root for the site to come back.

PPPS. There are more things ging on in the world that have higher legal piority then random non connected to real people fiction.

My intent wasn’t to cause Nifty problems. It was to be used as an example to combat the fear of “omg am I going to be arrested for reading these stories on GSS! intense breathing” And it is a fair question! I don’t want it ignored! People on this site have been arguing that legal problems are going to cause trouble here. Law this and law that! Nifty has been up since 1993, WITH, pedo content. It doesn’t seem to be going anywhere. SOMEONE TELL ME WHY?! I’m begging you, please! lol When THAT site goes down, you know, the one hosting stories involving 9 year olds, then we should maybe be concerned about the 16 year olds on THIS site. I don’t want Nifty to go either Heru.

I should have put a  after the Nifty ps @MindInABox. My bad. …

But yeah if a three decade website ain’t having issues I don’t think this one will.

It’s alright, my friend! I wasn’t yelling at you or anything specifically, I just wish one of these hysterical pedo-accusing people would give me an explanation as to how that site is still up and running, with fresh content coming in all the time. They, who seem to know so much about the laws of the matter. I am aware of the actual laws, in my country and some laws in others, but this Nifty thing is a bit of a puzzle. I don’t want it to go, just as much as I don’t want this site to go. Now I am not actually one for banning, but you and Mafisto may be right that it is a good idea to ban these anonymous key-board heroes, as I have noticed that 90% of them are just making noise, and their ‘arguments’ are nothing more than fluff. My last point on this is that people shouldn’t worry. Browsing to read a story, when real crime is being committed, real child porn is being watched, real problems, it is such a small chance, like 00000. something, that you, or me, one of billions of people, are going to be hunted down specifically. This fear is called paranoia. You’ll be much happier to lose it.

While I’m not familiar with Nifty personally, I would imagine that it’s been up all this time due to the various issues with international law, being able to demonstrate harm, and even just knowing where the authors and moderators are actually from.

I don’t doubt for a moment that the chances of getting arrested for reading stories on GSS are slim, and I’m comfortable being a member of the site regardless of what rules Martin ultimately decides on (within reason), if indeed he keeps the site up at all. But in the end, no matter how long other sites have been up or what their rules are, the chance of being arrested is non-zero in my country (Canada), and many others, as long as stories with those under 18 are allowed. And if anything does come up, the first people looked at will be the site staff. That’s the part that was making me personally uncomfortable, even more so when the story out of Quebec came to light.

It’s for each of us to decide what our comfort level is with the risks involved, and even the risks will vary from one jurisdiction to the next.

Which story out of Quebec? I’m from Quebec too.

This one. It was posted earlier, either in this thread or the age one.

Haha, I’m the one who posted it. It’s about a novel that was distributed in Walmarts and such, and it’s being well defended. But yes, it shows the risk is non zero.

I thought you were, but when you asked about it again, I thought I must be confused.

I can’t guarantee I’m not confused as a general rule.

LOL, me neither.

Yes. I have always understood your reasoning behind the issue Robinhood. And you are correct in saying that if someone doesn’t feel comfortable, they should take their own personal action for the site. I get that makes some people unhappy, as they want different things than Martin, but that’s just how life goes. Sometimes you don’t get what you want. They are very free to start their own website; that’s something they CAN do. But slinging insults and moaning and complaining, that’s never gotten anyone anywhere. Sheesh this whole fiasco has been ridiculous. Greetings Easterners! I’m from Western Canada. Robin we talked on Discord the other day!

Martin, I totally get why you’re here, and I respect the decision, and it sucks that you’ve been pushed this far. GSS has been a wonderful community, and about the only place I’ve ever found where people really ‘get’ my kinks.

All good things end, and usually for reasons that aren’t as good as the thing. I’d hoped this good thing would last a little while longer.

Whatever your decision ends up being, I want you to know that it’s been good. I’ve loved posting to your site and reading the stories from everyone. Thank you for the time and effort you’ve given us.
