How much money is there in porn writing?

I’m a huge fan of this site, and absolutely will contribute on Patreon as soon as I can. But question, as someone who posted part of a story on here a few years back that I have yet to finish due to life getting in the way:

How much money is there in porn writing?

Everything on here is free. And as a writer in other media, I know how much work it takes to write a successful story for whatever purpose. Is all of this volunteer work? Aside from sponsored stories, it seems so…

The authors who are also on patreon must be making some amount of money, I guess. But I must admit I feel guilty consuming this wonderful material without contributing.

And on the other end, as someone who wants to be writing material for this site, I would hesitate, knowing that I should put my other work first.

Unless, of course, I’ve got it totally wrong, and the big name writers are, in fact, being reasonably compensated.

I wrote this some years back: Tumblr

That was before Patreon was really an option, but I’m not comfortable doing Patreon for my writing since I write so slowly. The authors I do know who do Patreon well, do it for extremely cheaply in my opinion. You can usually see how much an author is collecting monthly On their home page and see how many posts a month they are doing.

You have to be careful with Patreon. They don’t allow a lot of the types of things we write about, like coerced consent, incest, and a couple of other things. If I recall, it has more to do with payment processors than Patreon itself, but either way, it’s something to look into before you consider Patreon.

Well, that answers that. A really informative link–thanks!

Interesting, and good to know. Somehow a lot of my favorite authors who write about those things manage to make Patreon work for them, though… thescreamingmoist for example.

A lot of stuff slips through, but every so often, several people at once will say they’ve been asked to take things down or have had their accounts suspended. I think Patreon does sweeps every so often and just gets whatever they find, so it’s hit or miss if you get caught. That’s my impression, anyway.

As a reader, I usually keep an eye open for a style or content I like from an author. Often times I will send an email or try to see if there is any interest in doing a commission. Personally I prefer this method since I usually allow an author to take some liberties in expressing them selves or adding something they like to a story. I have built a nice collection of content over many years many of which are tailored & will reflect a cross section of interests, kinks & desires. This is why I would not get involved with a site like Patreon.

What is the problem to get money via porn? You may earn it easily by yourself, but it depends on the person. However, you may make a little effort to save some money and avoid porn business:). You can save via financial advisor. Have a look on the article, it really helped me . I hope you will find the best possibility to save and earn a lot.

Some authors self-publish quite short stories on Amazon even quite niche kink. There’s a mix of those who charge per title and those who are content to make titles “free” to Amazon Unlimited subscribers. I favour the latter, not least because I can return the title and clear it from my device with no cost penalty.

My experience has been that you can make some nice side money to pay a few bills, but I don’t think anyone’s making a living off this. It’s hard to market for one, and there’s the constant fear of having the rug pulled out from under you if you get too visible. The key seems to be consistency in posting and Putting out a high volume to really make anything, so it’s just a question of how much work you want to put in. My page has definitely become a second job, which I love, but it very much feels like work sometimes.
