Something is happening which makes the first story on the list always marked seen. It’s missing the little star whether I’ve been to the site recently or not.

The reason is that he submitted a huge number of stories he brought over from Tumblr all at once. I’m just approving them on a one-story-per-day policy, to not swamp the list with his stories.
But because of that, his stories aren’t considered ‘new’ to you, even though they were actually not accessible for you, yet. The algorithm to check whether you’ve seen a story is quite simple and just uses the story-id as a basis. So, since this is a rare circumstance, I’m going to live with that.
