Planned Features

Sorry about bringing tags again to the discussion. I know you’ve got them in mind. But since I’m given the chance, something I’ve missed sometimes is to be able to remove mistaken tags on my stories when they’ve been already published. I know I could ask an admin to do it for me, but I wouldn’t want to cause them trouble for such tiny things.

Yes, I’m going to add a feature to add and delete tags. I’m already working on that …

Thank you so much in advance

Last I checked, arbitrary links are possible in a story (as are bold and italics) by entering them as pure HTML. That’s the way my character lists were done. I’ll grant that not everyone knows how to do that, but if that’s still a possibility, then that might make adding a user-friendly feature for it a bit less of a priority. On the other hand, if that’s no longer possible, then the reverse logic applies and it would be a very big priority for me, since every last one of my stories includes links to a fantasy cast.

Far as I know, embedding pure HTML into stories still works. You just have to make sure that “Automatically generate clickable links” is unchecked, otherwise the link will get converted to “Click Here” if it’s over a certain number of characters.

The replacement with “Click Here” was done so that super long links to Tumblr pictures didn’t force the frame of the story to be super wide on phone screens, due to the link text having no spaces to line wrap.

I‘ve never checked what the filter lets through and what not. In any case, I‘ll work on that code. I don‘t like the idea of arbitrary html code being accepted, so if that‘s currently the case, I‘m going to change that most definitely.

But I also want to make it possible to use simple markup for italics, bold etc. because it can improve the readability a lot.

Stay tuned, I‘m actually working every day on the site. The tag management is practically finished (it was a beast of work) and I had to replace the tag edit widget for that as well. That‘ll probably go live this weekend, but the only visible difference for the users will be the tag widget (and with it the option to edit existig tags on stories),

The rest is just for the admins who will be busy the next weeks with cleaning up, merging and rearranging the existing tags. Then I‘m going to work on the new selection features… Actually I‘m really looking forward to this…

At one point I also wanted a tagging option. But if you look at some of the older stories you can recognize the many inconsistencies that an unmoderated tagging option creates. Many people have different terms for the same thing.

  • Some use #mindcontrol and others use #mind_control
  • Some use #gay and #straight and others use #straighttogay
  • Some use #pig and others use #fuckpig

If there is going to be an effective tagging system, some one (or a select group of individuals) will need to come up with a consistent taxonomy for tagging. It’s actually a lot of work, particularly if one is going to go through the 1,000+ stories on this site.

@nycboot: That’s why I’ve implemented a new dialog which allows the Admins to clean up the existing tags. That means that we will merge tags which are describing the same thing. All stories tagged with one of the merged tags will then only carry the same single tag for that meaning.

We will also delete superfluous tags which are too specialised, so nobody would search or filter for them anyway.

And finally, I will add special “category” tags, which will be used to sort in the stories in like 5-10 basic categories.

I hope this way I can make the system useful again. Give us some time please, I hope in 2-4 weeks this will all be finished.
