Please never think I’m displeased with your efforts. I think you’re an amazing person and your creation is a tribute to your efforts.
Nah, don’t worry. I never interpreted your postings that way.
And you’re the amazing person here, considering what you’ve done for people throughout your life.
Ah! Nice! Thanks for refining the system. All these changes make sense.
On a side funny note, my “Preferred Kinks” shows “Transformation” now
The one category I try to avoid hahaha I suppose I might have read, rated, and liked stories with that (I blame some good authors that managed to make me enjoy their stories despite the transformation elements
). Ironic nonetheless.
Is the order of appearance related to the preference? Transformation shows the least from the five, so that’d check.
Ah! And should “Pov” tags be removed from being considered as well? They remind me the “Number Person” ones.
Yes, the order reflects your preference, in all the lists (also tags and authors).
I was considering to remove pov as well. But I figured that someone might actually prefer “pov controlled” over “pov controller” and that SHOULD be taken into account afaic.
Did have one thought , and correct me if I’ve misunderstood, but all those nice people that rate stories they don’t like giving 1s accross the board to troll , will this new feature means they get recommended more stories like those cos they rated ? Lol ![]()
I hope so cos it would serve them right
Heh. That would be karma, wouldn’t it?
But no, you have to rate a story favorably for it to be taken as something you like. “Favorably” currently means at least 3 categories with 4.5 stars or better.
BTW…
I’m currently working on another change. As it is right now, the popular and common tags are vastly overrepresented - because naturally, you keep liking stories with these tags even just by chance.
So I’m changing that, so if you keep liking stories using some very specific, rare tags, these tags will get favored. I hope I can manage to upload this today, but it’s already very late…
Ok, the final update is up for today.
I’ve realized that the old system created rather bland results, because everyone naturally keeps reading/liking/rating stories which have the most common tags, just because they’re so common.
But what really defines a user’s taste is the specific, rare tags a user keeps coming back to.
That’s why I changed the algorithm to favor rare tags (meaning tags which are not commonly used on stories) as opposed to popular tags.
Again, please check your profile to see if the collection the system comes up with now makes sense for you!
I’ll say good night and hopefully, by tomorrow, there is some feedback if this makes sense and improves the results for you!
New update is very good. I get useful results in my list. Gave me incentive to start reading a bit more, well, stories I like anyway.
Hi! Here to say that I just checked and the recommendations make more sense now. Thanks! And I know because some of them I had read and enjoyed when I was offline lol (I know how to deal with those, no worries
)
Is there a way to manually mark a story as read (or could we possibly get that?) Sometimes the automatic “read” update doesn’t catch. I mention this here cause I’m getting recommended stories I’ve already read but aren’t marked as such.
It’s really useful. Because there are so many stories, even using tags to filter them makes it difficult to decide which one to read. This is a real boon for people with decision-making difficulties. Best update ever!
As I’ve described in the initial post of this thread, just click on the golden “sparkle” icon (the magic wand), that will block that series from being suggested (the icon turns red).
Thank you. That means a lot! ![]()
just a heads up I’m not seeing that icon on the recommended tab… just after rating stories.
Yeah, that’s true. This is the only place where there are no controls on the story whatsoever. That includes the bookmark toggle, comment counter, subscribe thingy…
I’m aware of that but the thing is that the story view is not really made up to support all that. Of course I could write a whole lot of code to fix it, but I decided to leave it like this.
But I agree, that at least the sparkle icon and the option to disable the suggestion should be possible in this place, too. It just makes sense. Give me a couple of days please…
Not sure if this is what was being asked. But I found I was reading randomly searching a couple days ago. Wound up in a series that I had begun reading. I went to the first one that was not checkmarked as already read. But, I had read it, and even the next one or two in that series. But, somehow the system had not marked them as read by me. That isn’t so much trying to block anything especially as I might like rereading. But, the question made me think of this and whether I can manually mark one as read when it didn’t do that?
Are you sure you’ve read ALL chapters? The algorithm will never suggest a series you’ve already read completely, but if there*s just one chapter you haven’t read, it can still suggest it. I have loads of series which I never completed (which I’m now reminded of).
The “read” marker on series can be misleading, there is a bug which causes it to show “completely read” (filled blue or green checkmark) when the final chapter is actually still unread. I’m going to look into that.
Also, another issue, as the list of suggestions is refreshed only every couple of hours, a series you’ve just read might still be suggested for a couple of hours. I’ll also try to fix that.
Ah I missed that, thank you!

pretty sure I have read some of them more than once. no big deal. just something I noted. - One of them is my own. I’ve read it. ![]()
Wow. What an awesome new feature. I absolutely love it. Thanks Martin! This is a great way for people to find new stories they missed or haven’t read. It’s been spot on for me.
