Callout for a new Master of Story Challenges

As you all know, @Nu-and-the-Nus retired a couple of months ago, as the time involved in managing the site was starting to affect his private life.

And I can truly relate to that.

One of the things he excelled at was his way of organizing our story challenges and especially finding and writing those amazing prompts.

People have been asking me when the next challenge will be. Even though I initiated them many years ago and the first couple of prompts were also written by me, I feel I’m no longer the right person for that task.

Also, I think we had too many story challenges, to be honest. I think they lose impact if they’re too frequent. So I’d like to reduce it to maybe two challenges per year, either including or in addition to the Halloween challenge, which has become a tradition already.

So I’m looking for a person who feels up to the task to become our new Master of Story Challenges. What will be involved?

  • Finding new topics for upcoming challenges and writing a short text explaining what that topic is about.
  • Possibly offering multiple topics for people to vote on. But this is optional; if you’d rather define the topic yourself without any voting, that would be fine for me as well.
  • Organize the challenge: Set a date and a deadline for the challenge. Announce it on the front page, reminding people of the upcoming deadline and finally reporting the results.
  • Also, you could look at the ratings to detect any attempts to manipulate the challenge results. This has been happening in the past, and I’ll provide the necessary tools, of course.

In return, the person will get a nice title, certain administrative rights and, along with that, certain additional features that would be exclusive for sponsoring users.

If there are any questions, ask them in this thread. If you want to apply, please write me in a PM.

Thank you all!

What kind of experience would you expect from people who are interested in volunteering?

Hi Lonely

The role does not need any specific experience, but the individual needs to be able to take charge of the competition. As Corin said, being organised, succinct communicator, with a bit of a creative bend (to come up with comp topics and synopses).

Not to dissuade anyone, I could see someone with a little marketing or project management experience would have an advance. Don’t forget, the creative streak is also needed.
