Feature Request: "Report Story" button

As of now, you can only report comments on the stories but not the stories themselves.
I think there should be a report button on the actual stories, in case anyone posts something that really shouldn’t be on there.

I think a major difference between stories vs. comments is that comments can be posted by anybody, and often are posted anonymously.

Whereas all stories that are posted on the site these days need to be read and approved by our approval team first. Right now, if you see a new story on the site, that means it’s already been vetted by the approver team prior to being posted.

Still, if there’s a story posted to the site that you feel still breaks the site rules and isn’t appropriate, reach out to the admin team via the admin inbox, aka admin@gaykinkystories.com. That’s the appropriate way to report a story you feel is breaking the site rules. Then the admin team can take a closer look and make a decision, one way or another.

Whereas, for comments, there’s no vetting or approval process on comments before they’re posted. So the ‘report’ button on comments is useful because it lets the admin team know if an inappropriate comment (such as spam) was posted. Otherwise, there’s a chance we might not even see that comment. And the report becomes a way to let us know to look at the comment. Then we can decide the best way to respond. (People do abuse this feature sometimes, too, because it’s so easy to click ‘report’ on a comment you dislike. Occasionally people report a comment out of spite, and not because the comment was actually inappropriate. In that case, we ignore the report.)

Stories vs. comments are fundamentally very different from each other. So, to me, it makes sense to have different tools for how to handle objections to a story vs. a comment. I hope this helps explain things a bit?

The fact that GKS vets their submissions makes it one of the least likely online publishing sites to need a ‘story report’ function.

None the less, there’ll always be a disappearing chance something will need to be reported, and so the admin inbox (which you can email) fills that function.

A point I’d like to add is, I remember OP asking on GEF Discord how to report a story. It wasn’t apparent to him from the story’s actual page. Looking at the story page myself, I must also admit it isn’t apparent.

Perhaps a good idea would be putting something like;

if there’s a story posted to the site that you feel still breaks the site rules and isn’t appropriate, reach out to the admin team via the admin inbox, aka admin@gaykinkystories.com.

Near or among options such as bookmark, favourite, curate, etc.
i.e. make it apparent on the page (the page the story is on, to the layman reader) how to flag something.

I think emailing admin is sufficient, but I also think, there ought to be a heads up that “that’s what you do” somewhere handier than having to wonder and then go around asking.

Ooh hm, yes. I’ll look into this when less tired… It may be worth putting it down in writing somewhere on the site. Maybe not a button on each story—but, at the very least, some general guidelines for what to do when concerned about a story. And the guidelines can be written down in a place where people will see and find them… I have an idea for what to do, and I’ll look into possible implementation after the next few weeks. (Unfortunately I’m unusually busy for next few weeks and am not online much.)
