Spambot

Hey, site admins. There seems to be a spambot commenting on many many stories using my name. Anyone seeing those, it’s not me. I have a profile pic and the spambot doesn’t.

I see a ton of comments from them. They also changed tags on my stories and now they redirect to the spam page too.

Yes, happening to my stories, too!

Corin’s on the case. :face_with_steam_from_nose: We hope to have it all fixed in a couple hours!

Thanks so much!!

Just a short update:

A guy managed to abuse our tag system to inject code that redirects to some spam website. I hope no real damage has been done.

I shut down the site to avoid any serious damage.

I have a lot of mechanisms in place to protect the site against such an attack, but it seems that there was a way to name a tag to circumvent my protections.

I’ll fix that before the site goes back online. This might take some hours though.

I’m pretty confident that no harm is done, but I’ll check the code this guy injected to make sure.

Sorry for that and please be patient.

I’m also very sorry for that, too.

I’ll also add a protection to the system limiting the number of comments that can be written, so no one can simply use comments to spam authors.

I’m so sorry that your good name was abused like that :frowning:
